Bol brilantný - ako hudobník aj ako veľvyslanec hudby. V rokoch 1958 až 1972 ich v hlavnom vysielacom čase vysielala televízia CBS. 52 hodinových programov napísal a viedol Leonard Bernstein, "určite najvplyvnejší americký maestro 20. storočia" (New York Times).
